ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

An enjoyable festive evening at the club.

11 pairs contested a hard fought, but light hearted tournament and enjoyed an excellent buffet afterwards.

Well done to the runners-up CHLOE and DAVE and congratulations to the winners JUNE and LI.

Many thanks to Will for all his efforts in organising another very successful event.

Organiser's report

The Christmas tournament was marred by the state of the floor. One court was totally unplayable, so with a good turnout (22 people), it was inevitable that we all spent a lot of time waiting for our games.

Despite the risk of injury, everyone decided to go ahead and, to my knowledge, there were no serious injuries (not counting people's pride, that is).

The winners were June and Li, who prevailed over Chloe and Dave in the final.

Last year's winners didn't fare so well this year. Liam's partner was Dave, so that proves that without a woman to run around for him, he's not quite so good. And Julie's partner was me, so she had no chance either. That's the luck of the draw.

Without taking anything away from June and Li, the handicap system did play a small part in the outcome, so I welcome any feedback on whether this was a good idea or not. Personally, I think it means everyone is in with a half a chance if they raise their game.
